The IoNIR coronary hybrid device represents a radically new concept in coronary interventions. The spiral metallic radial component contains a minimal amount of metal to reduce vascular injury and promote healing. A complete absence of rigid longitudinal structure allows for normal vessel motion in all directions immediately following implantation. The polymeric mesh component provides for a transient lengthwise structure, working with integrated markers to allow precision deployment. Ridaforolimus drug is incorporated into the fiber mesh itself, thus ensuring a completely uniform spread of the drug throughout the vessel wall, while at the same time allowing a four-fold reduction in total drug dose, relative to existing DES. Together, these features create an unprecedented new level of efficacy and safety in percutaneous coronary interventions.
